Amy Henrickson

Amy is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and full-time School Psychologist. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Western Illinois University and remained there for graduate school to earn her Specialist in School Psychology degree. Additionally, Amy attended National-Louis University to earn a separate Master’s degree in Counseling.

Having over twenty years of experience in the educational setting, Amy is adept at assessing client’s cognitive abilities, academic achievement, adaptive behavior, and psychological functioning. With a focus on client’s learning strengths, she works with families and teens to determine appropriate support for various challenges and learning differences. Amy has experience working with adolescents and young adults who experience depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, difficulties with self-regulation, executive functioning challenges, attention difficulties and autism spectrum disorder.

Clients easily connect to Amy’s down-to-earth personality and genuine care for their well-being which leads to a safe and trusting relationship. Great communication skills and the ability to empower young people to become the best version of themselves is a testament to her experience and expertise. Depending on an individual’s needs, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), and Solution-Focused therapies are applied during counseling sessions. Amy’s approach is open, supportive and compassionate. Utilizing her client’s learned coping strategies, interpersonal skills, self-confidence, problem-solving, and self-management skills, Amy finds joy in celebrating their growth and improved mental health.

In her free time, Amy enjoys spending time with her children, family and friends, as well as reading, exercising, traveling and coaching sports.
